Enabling secure payments

Increasing user comprehension and mitigating drop off risk during enrollment in a secure payment solution

Helping users understand the benefits of enrolling in a new secure payment feature during checkout

As a content designer embedded on the global checkout services team at a financial services company, I focused on collaboratively designing solutions in an Agile environment with internal CX&D team partners in product design, visual design and research as well as external stakeholders in product, marketing, and legal.

This particular project involved adjusting the design of a digital wallet checkout flow to account for newly-uncovered technical and business requirements that needed my expertise to advocate for the user. Let’s explore my process.

Objectives

My main objectives included:

  • Reviewing and synthesizing past voice and tone and product strategy materials to ensure I understood the problem space and designed a solution that advocated for users
  • Ideating on solutions for new microcopy, product screens, and key moments in the user flow
  • Presenting solutions to internal and external stakeholders

Methodology

I combined discovery, ideation, presentation and handoff and collaborated with a product designer and product and developer stakeholders. Below are some artifacts from the project.

Here is part of the original product flow with the uncovered need for a new screen to enable enrollment
Some of the variations I explored when considering microcopy for the enrollment screen
A sample of the final proposed flow with additional screens and microcopy adjustments to help ensure user comprehension and continuity while encouraging enrollment

Success metrics

Success for this project meant internal and external teams would adopt the proposed design. I presented design solutions to my product design counterpart and we approached the product manager and developer teams to smoothly hand off materials.
